  • 14.09.11 - FANTASYCON has secured a few rooms at the next door hotel, the Royal York. Rooms cost £119 a night, inclusive of a Full English cooked breakfast. To book a room, call Kelly Louw on 01273 766 804 or email kelly@royalyorkbrighton.co.uk, quoting the code FC2011.
  • 14.09.11 - Bookings for the FantasyCon 2011 banquet close on Sunday 18th September. A few places still remain, but please hurry to avoid missing your chance to take part. All menu choices are also needed by this date, to enable the hotel to process their order for the meal. If you’ve booked a ticket but have not yet advised us of your choices, please email them to banquet@fantasycon2011.org before the cut-off date.     If we do not receive your choices before this date, the following default choices will be assigned: Starter: Melon. Main Course: Roast Beef in a red wine and onion gravy. Dessert: Lemon torte.

  • 01.09.11 - ARTISTS’ ROW

    FantasyCon 2011 is delighted to announce that its unique ARTISTS' ROW will feature such renowned artists as BEN BALDWIN, VINCENT CHONG, LES EDWARDS/EDWARD MILLER, DOMINIC HARMAN and STEVE UPHAM, who will be exhibiting original artwork or offering print material for sale at competitive prices.

    If you’re an artist wishing to reserve a table, then we still have a few remaining. Artists’ Row tables can be booked at a rate of £15 (limit of one table per artist) if you have already purchased a membership to the convention.

    If you’re not already registered, then FantasyCon 2011 has agreed a special Artists’ Membership of £50, which covers a weekend membership and one table in Artists’ Row.

    If you wish the convention to sell prints on your behalf via the FantasyCon Print Table, then a small commission of 10% of all sales is payable to the convention. Please e-mail Steve Upham, who is organising Artists’ Row, with any queries at: steve@screamingdreams.com

    FANTASYCON EXPERT MASTERCLASSES

    FantasyCon 2011 is also providing a series of specialist EXPERT MASTERCLASSES on Saturday October 1st in the Sussex Room, Royal York Hotel (next door to the convention hotel), with authors/editors/agents MIKE CAREY, MEG DAVIS, JO FLETCHER, WILL FRANCIS, SIMON TAYLOR, STEPHEN VOLK and CATH TRECHMAN.

    The schedule is as follows:

    10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. - HOW TO WRITE FOR COMICS
    Join MIKE CAREY (writer for comics and author of graphic novels such as Lucifer, X-Men Legacy, The Unwritten and the "Felix Castor" novels) as he outlines how to write for comics.

    11:00 a.m. to Noon - HOW A PUBLISHING DEAL WORKS
    Join WILL FRANCIS of Janklow and Nesbit Literary Agency as he details what to look for when you receive that all-important offer.

    1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. - HOW TO WRITE A BOOK THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO FILM
    Join MEG DAVIS of Ki Literary Agency as she discusses what makes a book a suitable project for adaptation.

    2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. - THE MAKING OF A BOOK
    Join JO FLETCHER of Jo Fletcher Books as she discusses the passage of a book from initial submission to final publication.

    3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. - THE SUBMISSION PROCESS
    Join SIMON TAYLOR of Transworld Publishers as he details the process of considering a submission.

    4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. - THE HOT SEAT – SCREENWRITING
    Ask STEPHEN VOLK (Ghostwatch, Gothic, Afterlife) everything you wanted to know about scriptwriting for film and teleison.

    5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m - PUBLISHING THE TITAN WAY
    Join CATH TRECHMAN of Titan Books as she takes you through how the publisher works -- with tie-in fiction, fiction and non-fiction.

    All Expert Masterclasses cost only £5.00 each and are limited to just EIGHT places per session on a first-come basis. Payment will not be refunded if you fail to turn up.

  • 26.08.11 - FantasyCon 2011 is happy to announce that we've now been able to incorporate an 'Artists' Row' - a limited number of tables are available, click here to find out more.
  • 21.07.11 - FantasyCon are delighted to announce best-selling US Fantasy author Christopher Paolini as our second Special Guest. The first three books in the Inheritance Cycle - Eragon, Eldest and Brisingr - have sold over 25 million copies worldwide, including more than 4 million copies in the UK editions. INHERITANCE, the fourth and final title in the epic fantasy sequence the Inheritance Cycle, is published on 8th November. Christopher will be attending on the Saturday of the convention (1st October) as part of his UK tour.

  • 24.06.11 - Final price rise due on 1st July 2011 - prices will increase to £65 (£60 to BFS members) for a weekend membership. Day rate (Saturday only) will remain at £40. Book now to avoid the increase.

  • 16.05.11 - FantasyCon 2011's fourth Guest of Honour is fantasy author Joe Abercrombie. Joe's first novel, THE BLADE ITSELF, was published in 2006, and now has publishers in more than 20 countries. Its sequels, BEFORE THEY ARE HANGED and LAST ARGUMENT OF KINGS, followed in 2007 and 2008. BEST SERVED COLD, a stand-alone book set in the same world, was published in June 2009, and a second stand-alone, THE HEROES, in January 2010, when it made No. 3 on the SUNDAY TIMES Bestseller list.   • 09.03.11 - FantasyCon 2011 can now announce our third Guest of Honour, author and scriptwriter Peter Atkins. Author of the novels Morningstar, Big Thunder, and Moontown and the screenplays Hellraiser II, Hellraiser III, Hellraiser IV, Wishmaster, and Prisoners of the Sun, his short fiction has appeared in such best-selling anthologies as The Museum of Horrors, Dark Delicacies II, and Hellbound Hearts and has been selected four times for the award-winning annual Best New Horror.   • 22.02.11 - FantasyCon 2011 is delighted to announce Special Guest Brian Aldiss will be attending on the Saturday and Sunday. A multiple award-winning author of both mainstream and science fiction, Brian is the author of more than eighty novels, innumerable short stories and various plays as well as the editor of many anthologies, and an artist.   • 20.12.10 - The Convention Hotel is now fully booked for the night of Thursday 29th September 2010. Please book your hotel room by the end of June to avoid disappointment.
  • 10.12.10 - Price rise due on 1st January 2011 - book now to avoid the increase! As of 1st January 2011, the price for a weekend membership will be £50 for non-BFS members, £45 for BFS members. Day membership (Saturday only) will remain unaltered, at £40 (to all).
  • 11.10.10 - FantasyCon 2011 are delighted to announce our second Guest of Honour, Swedish horror author John Ajvide Lindqvist. Best known for his vampire novel (and subsequent movie) Let The Right One In, John's new novel, Harbour, is out now.
  • 24.09.10 - FantasyCon 2011's first Guest of Honour is World-Fantasy Award winning author Gwyneth Jones.
  • 24.09.10 - Mistress of Ceremonies for FantasyCon 2011 is British Fantasy Award-winning author Sarah Pinborough.
